Managing Chart Lines – Keep It Clean & Clear

How to handle the limits in TradingView

TradingView has a hard limit of 500 lines per indicator instance. This means that if you have many features enabled or are analyzing large historical data, you might hit the line limit, which could cause some lines or Order Blocks (OBs) to be hidden.

To maximize the number of visible Order Blocks (OBs) and Breaker Blocks (BBs), consider the following steps:

Disable Historical Order Blocks

Historical OBs can consume a significant number of lines, leaving fewer for current analysis. Turning this option off allows more lines for the most recent data.

Enable Gaps Merge

This option merges nearby Order Blocks or Breaker Blocks into one, reducing the total number of lines on the chart and focusing on broader, significant zones.

Use Filters

  • Apply the “Filter historical lines smaller than X bars” option. This removes small and less relevant OBs, freeing up space for more critical structures.
  • Use other filters like Candle Pattern Strength or Volume to ensure only the highest-quality OBs and BBs are displayed.

Adjust Performance Settings

If you want to analyze further back in time, choose higher performance settings in the indicator. This allocates more computational resources to processing older bars and reduces the focus on less relevant features.

Use less timeframes or adjust max lines

All 500 lines must be shared with 38 timeframes. The maximum number of lines per time frame can be set under “Max Lines”. As higher timeframes do not require as many lines, 22 is a good value to get as many lines as possible across all timeframes.

Pro Tip: Focus on What’s Relevant

When analyzing older price action:

  • Deactivate unnecessary options. For example, disable historical OBs, Gaps Merge, or additional filters to allow the system to focus solely on older bars.

  • Use fewer Multi-Timeframe (MTF) timeframes. Fewer timeframes mean more lines can be allocated to individual analysis.

When analyzing recent data:

– Enable helpful options like Gaps Merge and Filters to simplify the chart and prioritize precision.

By strategically enabling or disabling options, you can control how the indicator allocates its resources and lines, tailoring it to your specific trading needs.
